Collaborative Just Culture® Program for Reliability Management Teams and Individuals

Two Day Course

The term just culture has been around since professor Jim Reason coined it over thirty years ago. But over the years, it remained little more than an aspirational philosophy. Ironically, the words themselves do little to ensure robust reporting of risks that contribute to bad outcomes. In many instances, the term just culture has sparked a backlash, with managers using a biased algorithm focused on human behavior, skipping over the systems, environment, and performance shaping factors contributing to the risk. But most importantly, the term just culture has different meanings depending on whom you ask. One company leader says they have a just culture; another says they don’t, without hard evidence either way. So, what’s the solution?

Collaborative Just Culture Programs (CJCPs) are evidence-producing programs proven to help organizations achieve high reliability through workplace justice, collaboration, increased risk reporting, and organizational response. The universal CJCP standard is the first of its kind. It is based on the success of the Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP), which led the airline industry to a 95% reduction in the US fatal accident rate, combined with a collaboration-based just culture approach pioneered in healthcare. The purpose of CJC programs is to protect the public and working professionals by proactively identifying and managing risk, including hazards and potentially unsafe conditions. The program has applications in all high-consequence industries, including healthcare, aviation, EMS, energy sectors, manufacturing, as well as general business. Corrective and preventative actions are taken to manage, eliminate, or reduce the risk, hazard, or unsafe condition.

For the first time, SG Collaborative Solutions is offering preparation for this transformational program intended for members of an organization’s Reliability Management Team (RMT) and key individuals seeking individual qualifications required under the Collaborative Just Culture Program Standard. The CJCP Qualification Course is delivered through a five-week series of online training courses blended with twice-weekly live learning sessions.

At the end of the training process, organizations that have completed the steps defined in the program and met all the elements of the CJCP standard are prepared for qualification as a CJCP. Each cohort commits to an independent structural program audit, resulting in a two-year CJCP qualification. The audit cycle repeats every two years, accompanied by an external program performance audit.

Up to eighteen (18) accredited continuing education credit hours (CEUs) are included for healthcare professionals. Individuals completing the coursework are also eligible to take an additional online Role Qualification course leading to a live role qualification examination, providing a two-year, renewable digital certificate.

Pricing

  • RMT and Individual Members ($1,499 per person; discounted to $1,199), which includes unlimited access to Level 3 (RMT) online courses, Live Learning Sessions, digital downloads of all course materials, overview of CJCP Standard and the CJCP Standard. This also includes the option of Fact Gatherer Role Qualification.

Fact Gatherer Role Qualification Option

Following completion of the two-day course, individuals are eligible for the Fact Gatherer role qualification exam at no additional cost, as required by the CJC program standard. The role qualification earns a certificate valid for two years and is renewable online.

Why This Matters: Reliability science has proven that the more risks that are seen, reported, and managed collaboratively, the greater the chances of prevention. Evidence-producing benefits of the program include:

  • Fewer accidents and incidents leading to a reduction in insurance claims and lower premiums;
  • Aligns with Annex 19 Safety Management System requirements (aviation);
  • Meets and exceeds CMS Patient Safety Structural Measures (healthcare); and
  • Greater employee satisfaction with lower turnover rates.
